Shed Hunting Dogs
Why are dogs so submissive and loyal?

My cousin has a cat and a dog, the dog lazes about the place all day, trying to get inside, following everybody when they leave, and if it's not in the house it sits on the doorstep or in it's box in the shed all day, but their cat is around for like an hour a day, it goes off hunting all day and hasn't even been in the house.

Dogs have a social structure. They want to be around the alpha (that would be your cousin) and please him. To be seperated from the rest of the "pack" is bad for the dog. It's like being shunned or disciplined.
Cats by nature are loners. They can and are very loving to humans but it is usually on their terms.
