Felting a timber shed roof?
Im building a timber shed!
12x10 in my garden.
Two questions??
1-- I have a concrete slab down should i still put shed onto blocks to lift it off the wet concrete ..This Ireland and we get lots of rain..
2-- Hos do you felt the roof I know you nail it down the over lap it but do you do anything on the seams??
Anyone felted a shed roof anyone got any tips???
1. Depending on how thick you made the slab, I would put the shed flat on the concrete. The siding should cover over the slab to prevent water running into the shed, it should cover about 2 " and still have 2 " of ground clearance. Another way to do this would be to use a piece of metal trim on the bottom and put caulking around the metal wood interface to seal the edge.
2. Start at the outside edge and lay it toward the center. Do both sides and then lay the last coarse even on both sides. If you are talking the exterior felt, put on the underlayment felt first as described and and then do the exterior felt, on this one, you will need to lay a bead of tar or other sealant to make the edge seal. Normally, here anyway, a can of tar comes with the exterior felt. By exterior felt, I mean the stuff with the little rocks. I add the sealer to the seams because we get such strong winds here, about 60 to 90 mph on occasion, it reduces the wind damage.
